It’s Christmas time! Well technically Christmas is past now, but everyone knows it technically lasts until New Years. So instead of posting actually interesting content, heres a summary of my Christmas haul. Just to make it at least slightly interesting, I’ll say a bit about my thoughts thus far for each game.

How do you Measure a Game’s Worth?

Posted in Ramblings by Josh on December 18, 2009 4 Comments

6-10-08-dollarAs with every Christmas season, there are a whole lot of games out there to buy right now. All the more so now that I own 2 systems I did not own last Christmas. Games can be very expensive, especially now that I own a PS3. For a few years now my money has mostly been spent on Nintendo DS games, which are fairly cheap, and World of Warcraft game time. Now looking at building a library for PS3 and PSP, the potential cost is somewhat daunting. I’ve never had all the games I want. Just the other day I filled out the “My Games” and “Wishlist” lists on my Playstation Network account, and the wishlist was bigger than the games list. So how do you decide what to buy when you can’t get them all? Some people will go about it different ways, but this got me thinking. How do you actually measure a game’s worth? Logically the best investment would be the game that gives you the most enjoyment for your dollars, but how do you measure that value?

Gamer Diary – Dec 14

WowNeedleI’ve been doing a variety of things lately. In fact I think the coming holidays have struck me with some form of attention deficit, since I’m playing like 5 games at once right now. I’ve done a handful of missions in GTA, played a little Valkyrie Profile, got a little farther in playthrough #2 of Dragon Age. I messed around with some old SNES games today too, which resulted in me beating Act Raiser for the first time. Most of my time has been spent playing World of Warcraft. I still won’t be able to do much/any raiding, but patch 3.3 has handed me some tantalizing prospects. To be quite honest, I’m surprised how much I’m enjoying the game lately despite not being able to jump into the new raid tier. Way to go Blizzard, feed that addiction!

Gamer Diary – Dec 8/09

Posted in Uncategorized by Josh on December 9, 2009 No Comments yet

VPToday was something of a short day. That tends to happen when you stay up to ungodly hours, then sleep less than you would on a normal day. None the less, I was excited to get back to Dragon Age this morning. I spent pretty much all day today finishing the final sequences of Dragon Age: Origins. I don’t want to talk about it too much here, since I will be doing a formal review of it in the coming days, but suffice it to say the lead up to the final battle was quite epic. The final battle was a bit plain for me though, and while the ending sequence was pleasing, it was rather uneventful (at least for the particular story route I followed). At any rate, I will be playing it through a few more times for other endings/story routes/whatever,  but it’s time to shift my game time a little, and I’m thinking most of it will be going to Valkyrie Profile.

Gamer Diary – Dec 7/09

dragon-ageDragon Age is consuming my mind. I’m not really sure why I’m not playing it right now, actually. I mean, I have been doing other things, too. I’ve gotten a good deal further in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, for one. I’ve also downloaded and played through a ton of demos for PS3. Most of them were pretty promising. In particular the demos for Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Batman: Arkham Asylum and InFAMOUS grabbed me. I say this like this is news, but those are all games that are pretty well known for being good. I like  to kind of test the waters though, you never know when a game might have a really good reputation, but end up being horrible or just not your style. With that said, there were certainly some demos I played that rather surprised me.
